Every city needs a bar like Cafe 9 - a neighborhood bar with good bands coming through a few times a week. Although renovations were made during COVID, the feel of the bar hasn't changed much since it opened in 1991 under the current name. Its history as a shot and beer bar goes back to the 1800s.
I caught sets from Field Day, Esmer, and Audio Jane, all new bands to me before the show. You can't beat the proximity to the state that Cafe 9 offers. With multiple artists taking the stage, it's fun to pick out the artists waiting to take the stage, and the friends and family members who came to see their people perform.
Field day came from Boston to showcase their newly released material.
Esmer had a rowdy crew up front dancing and hanging on every word of this soul group.

Thanks to my new friend Ahmad at Louder Than Love Presents for the invitation and conversation. I enjoyed hearing about your love of music and the types of music that you want to bring to the stage.
This experience was a great reminder to frequent local venues hosting regular live music. It brought back memories of long-ago nights in Cafe 9, and a good friend no longer with me. He loved a good dive bar, and Cafe 9 was one of his favorites. It's just got that feel.
